Guess who's an agented author, y'all?

Reading, Writing, and Randomness for January 2025

I mean, lots of people are agented authors. Like, thousands. Tens of thousands. Maybe even hundreds of thousands.

But ya girl is ONE of those millions of agented authors now!!!!

It’s still kind of wild and unbelievable, especially in the whirlwind that the last month of 2025 was. I’ve written up a whole “How I got my agent” post that goes into the capital-S Stuff that was happening in life around it, but the too long; didn’t read summary is: the same day I got an offer from one of my dream agents was the day that my husband and I made the horrible but necessary decision to help our sweet dog pass on. And then we had to pack up stuff and get ourselves over to the UK for Christmas. To say it’s been a month is an understatement. Forgive me for this month being on the shorter side newsletter-wise. But it links to two super-long pieces about querying I’ve written, so enjoy those.

Reading

My slowest reading month in a while, unfortunately.

  • No Ordinary Love by Myah Ariel

  • Totally and Completely Fine by Elissa Sussman

  • Fan Service by Rosie Danan

Writing

As part of a series of posts I’ve been writing up about querying (but didn’t want to post until I was done), I’ve published the first post, which gives a deep dive into the methodology I used when getting ready to query.

In addition to the post about my specific querying journey, I also have another in the works about Unconventional Querying, which covers pitch events, agents guides, and more.

… and Randomness

  • I’m on Margs and Manuscripts again and I’m the first official Friend of the Pod 💁‍♀️. This time, we talked about Heated Rivalry and why the genre of romance deserves so much more respect than it gets. We brought in waves of feminism, y’all. Make sure to subscribe to them because they’ll be dropping a bonus episode (because I talk way too much) about my query journey.

  • Speaking of Heated Rivalry, I’m still at the cottage and probably will be for a long time.

  • The Academy is dead to me for the way it snubbed Wicked: For Good. But yay for Sinners.

You want me to write more? I’m tired… I gotta work on edits. Go talk amongst yourselves until February.
